aalpha NET and its Roadmap for 2011 !

Dear All,

As 2010 comes to a close, we’d like to thank you for your continued partnership with us and hope that the new year brings you much joy, happiness and success.

We at aalpha NET are also looking forward to working with you in the new year and hope that our business relationship lasts for many more years to come 🙂

On the Domain names front, look out for new exciting extensions launch and super cool offers !

Windows Hosting :

We want to let you know that we have launched a number of new servers including Windows 2008 and SQL 2008 servers. These are exciting times at aalpha NET as our Data Center moves to new cloud based server infrastructure in Waco, Tx., across our H-Sphere platform. All new accounts will be going to Windows 2008 based cloud servers starting now !

With these servers we have moved into using cloud based server instances on all new servers, and will begin to move all servers to a cloud based elastic infrastructure. We will not have any new utility based usage charges, all will remain the same in billing, just allowing new flexibility in server launches as we go forward, along with improved restoration times in cases of disaster recovery.

Windows 2008 servers do not have the same COM objects as the 2003 servers. We will be including cloud instances of Windows 2003 servers, new accounts will go to 2008 by default but if you need 2003 we will move them to 2003 at no charge.

Wish you all a wonderful New Year !

Thanks

The Team @ aalpha NET

About .IN

.IN is India’s top-level domain on the Internet. Like .COM, .IN can be used for e-mail, Web sites, and other applications. But unlike other domains, .IN is a unique symbol of India and its role in the world.

The procedures for registering .IN names have been simplified. This allows anyone to register and use .IN domain names. Now .IN names are available for signup through a number of registrars. .IN domains are easy to buy, easy to use, fast and reliable!

INRegistry is the official .IN registry. It was appointed by the government of India, and is operated under the authority of NIXI, the National Internet eXchange of India.

Industry-wide Hacks and Malware Attacks

There has been a Linux Platform hack gathering speed in the last few weeks which has already affected a couple of reputed Web Hosting companies in the industry. While there is no clarity on the exact method of the attacks, they seem to be targeting various plugins that might be part of the applications running on your Customers’ websites.

Much like the Gumblar attacks around the same time last year, we suggest all Customers to keep the Web Applications running on their websites up to date. This includes WordPress installations, or any other CMS which needs regular updates.

Here are a few things that you need to keep in mind:

* Always keep strong FTP Passwords (changing these from time to time is a good practice)
* Scan your local system with a good AntiVirus and Malware remover to make sure the system is infection free (Especially the machine used to upload data)
* Avoid 777 permissions on any file or folder
* Using SFTP will also help in preventing these infections

On our part, you can rest assured that we are taking all measures possible to avoid any such hack on our servers. We have various security mechanisms in place that block these malicious actions from taking shape and we have also implemented various automated and periodic scans which identify any such patterns and cut them out from the root.

Fortunately, we do not have any instances of such an attack on our servers yet. While we are doing everything we can to safeguard you from such an attack, we will need you to be vigilant and proactive in taking all precautionary measures.
